EFPT NEUSIEDLERSEE 2007 Report and
Results by DaMike
Podersdorf starts TODAY
So
here we are in Podersdorf, a little city at the
eastern side of the Neusiedler lake.
No idea how many people live hear usually during the
year but when its "surfworldcup" time the
place is full of people.
The
event name was created many years ago when Poedrsdorf
was a part of the PWA tour and if you ask a windsurfer, kiteboarder
or local winemaker its always just "the worldcup".
For
anyone who wasn't here its hard to imagine how crowded this little place can
get, not only with people interested in windsurfing but also with young folks
which just want to be part of an exiting weekend wit windsurfers from all over
the world.

The
Eventsite is getting ready and till now it looks
still peaceful the last works are going to be done during this day and Friday
morning. As the forecasts are promising warm and sunny weather it's absolutely
sure that it will be crowded.
We might get some wind on Sunday and that would mean a
full beach and lot of action on the water...

Some
riders have been already spoted in podersdorf and we will have a welcome party after the registration,
this party is held in a local surf shops and usually ends in the only club of
the city...
So
watch out for more news to come

the welcome night...
Oh
what a night.
The
EFPT hit Podersdorf and had the warmest welcome!!!
A
local Surfshop - the MOVE Surfstore
- invited all of us to come and celebrate the start of the Event with them.
Well, we did...
After
having already a blast in the store some guys decided that Andrea should
celebrate his 10th anniversary in a sort of different way, so they
took a car and went to Bratislava...maybe we should tell ya
what happened, but we will leave you guys with one Info: andrea
will tell you, so stay tuned for a interview with Rosati!!!
The
rest stayed in podersdorf and was having an awesome
time with the locals, so many guys were waiting for the EFPT to come back and
so the mood was great, the girls kept smiling and our boys too of course.

The
surfshop closed at midnight and we couldn't believe
that someone was still waiting for us but in the legendary martinskeller
was a surprise waiting for us...
2
girls which were xtremely motivated couldn't wait to
get undressed - really!!!
So
what should we do? Gentleman as we are we made some space to keep them full
fill their mission and guess what, they managed to do it!!!

At
about 2 am the "Bratislava" expedition returned, we really have to
ask them what happened there...
By
the way, we found the girl who is Assistant to the event organizers and in
charge of the food and drink tickets so we have already our guys working on
that case...
Stay
tuned and wait for a lot more news to come...

The rider presentation in the big party tent
was the bomb…
So
that's it ha? We sit and wait ...
Sure
there are jobs that could be worse than sitting in the sun, relaxing and havin the nicest time by a lake. Only that we're just
waiting for wind again...
The
event site is ready, looks good and we got a small idea of what is about to come
today - it will be crowded for sure.
But
first of all, the rider presentation was about to happen in the big party tent
and this was unbelievable!!!
One of the most famous german bands "Silbermond"
gave a Concert in one of the huge party tents and after rhis
we were supposed to show up and present the riders. No one can imagine how
crowed the place was almost like the organizers wanted to check how many people
you can bring into a tent. The riders have been presented on the center stage and we think that they are still stoked
because of this place.
Big
star of the event was again Andrea Rosati who
celebrates his 10th Podersdorf
Anniversary!!!
After
he has been presented, the Event Organizer Gerhard Polak
gave him back the Entry fee and the whole tent was jumping when all other
riders sprayed their beers all over him...

So
what to do with all the people? Brian Talma, also on
stage, managed to get two "Bacardi" boards (promotion stuff) and
convinced Kevin Mevissen to throw him and a girl
lying on the Boards into the crowds. They made almost a whole circle through
the tent and when they came back to the stage it was like entering a complete
new level of unbearable fun...

Weather
forecast is quite bad for competition; they're talking about 1 or 2 bft!!! At least its sunny and
warm...
If
you want to know what's happening in Podersdorf keep checkin the website!!!

the single is almost done
Two
perfect days of sunshine a crowded beach with super relaxed people, the wind forecast
not promising and then the wind kicks in like hell and the boys go crazy.
Just
like this wouldn\'t be enough there is a ramp in the
competition area which throws guys in the air and leaves spectators breathless.
What
a day in Podersdorf at the "SURF
WORLDCUP"...
The
first view of the lake in the early morning was like a wish coming true,
whitecaps all over the water!!! YES, skippers meeting at 9am, and the first
guys on the water already at 9.10am.
First
guy practising on the water, like always: Andre Paskowski
(F2/North Sails).
You
might say that the young German reopened the area for everyone and in which
better way could we start a competition than sending out the EFPT Champ of 2006
to check the conditions?
Everyone
was super stoked, the conditions were so amazing that even the judges were shakin and wanted to go for a run...
The
lake had other things in mind.
Just
after finishing the first qualification heat the wind dropped so bad that the
competition had to be postponed.
It
was probably the fact that "the ramp" was waiting and the show that
the first riders delivered what kept the people on the beach waiting to see the
elite of European Freestyle.

Kevin
"Spunz" Mevissen
(JP/NP) was the first rider to hit the monster on this day and just as he had
announced it the night before he pulled a great forward loop, so nice and
smooth you might think he has one of these ramps in his backyard.
If
you think the crowds on the beach where stoked you should have seen his face,
smiling like a little child at Christmas Eve. A few jumps later he felt so
confident to show something never seen on the lake: a double forward!!! He
almost made it... but everyone on the beach of podersdorf
couldn't have been happier.

The
race director and his judge team knew in this moment that they can expect an
amazing day of unbelievable action. So after waiting for better conditions the
race was restarted at 3 pm.
And
it was exactly that way. The surprises kept coming...
Ruben
Petrisie (Exocet/The Loft)
got kicked out by young local Rider Max Matissek
(F2/North Sails). In a super nice heat he was out sailed by the youngster.
Next
famous Name to fall was Matteo Guazzoni
(RRD/Simmer) and again a young Austrian dude was happy to go one step further
up.
One
might say that this place has its own rules and the dropping and rising wind
was testing the nerves of riders and judges in equal amounts. About 7 heats had
to be cancelled and repeated to get a clear result, riders which went out with
a right sail size found themselves either over or underpowered a few minutes
later.
The
guys had to focus and keep an eye on their opponents much more than on any
other place, and it seems like exactly this situation gave the local guys a
pretty big advantage.
After
all struggling with the wind the competition had to be stopped with 4 heats
missing to complete the single. Race Director and Judge team decided to have
the first skippers tomorrow at 8am just to be
save as the wind was amazing in the morning everyone hopes that the lake will
awake in the same style on the last day of competition.
Still
in the race:
Nicolas
Akgaczyan (Starboard)
Michael
Rossmeier (Exocet/Aerotech)
Norman
Günzlein (JP/NP)
Kevin
Mevissen (JP/NP)
Remko de Weerd
(Fanatic/Gaastra)
Andre
Paskowski (F2/North Sails)
These
guys will go full power for sure as each one wants to stand on the top place.
We're
looking forward for these last heats and hope to get them done, so please keep
your fingers crossed and watch out for more news to come.
Aloha

Podersdorf is done - Akgazcyan wins
After
finishing the last 4 heats of the single elimination French Rider Nicolas Akgaczyan stands on top in Austria. As announced yesterday,
the skippers was held at 8am and heat #14 was done immediately afterwards. As
the conditions were not the best the race director decided to extend the heat
duration to 7min.
Also
the boys had to use their biggest sails and boards to show moves to the judges,
the competition area was replaced a bit and as they had to go further upwind to
start the head judge extended also the transition time between the heats.
The
done heats were all close as the riders had troubles to start planning, but you
could see super nice tricks as soon as they did.
After advancing through their previous heats, Normen
Günzlein (JP/NP) and Nicolas Akgaczyan
found themselves in the Final.
Both
riders had to work hard to get the moves done but in the end Nicolas managed to
beat his opponent!!!
The
young frenchie is super stoked and just smiling from
this moment on...
Also
the "small" final was not a "walk in the park", Andre Paskowski (F2/North Sails)
was fighting against his good friend Michi Rossmeier (Exocet/Aerotec). Andre
also did the best possible in this heat and send "Rossi" to the 4th
place.
As
the 1st of May is a holiday in Austria the event site is again
crowded and the boys are trying to use every gust to go over the ramp which
stands directly in front of the beach with a super session over the ramp.
So
Podersdorf is done but the event keeps running for
the Kitesurfers of the PKRA !!!
Keep
checking http://www.efpt.net/ as we will upload a mass of pics
into the event gallery.
Aloha
